Resolutions

It’s a wet and windy day outside yet, when I’ve finished writing this blog, I’ll be putting on my waterproofs and heading out for my daily dose of activity with my camera close at hand.

Let’s rewind nearly two months to Hogmanay, where this all began. I’m pretty sure I wasn’t the only one making a New Year’s resolution on 31st December 2016.  Mine had been a while coming together. It felt achievable but also enough of a challenge to keep me going. New Year, new me, right?

Since moving to Invergarry to run Saddle Mountain Hostel many a day has gone by without a single trip beyond the hostel entrance! As my family will tell you, I’m not good at being cooped up so it seemed to me a great reason for the first part of my resolution to spend some time outdoors being active every day.

I’ve always enjoyed taking photos so the second part of my resolution is to create a photomontage for the year by taking a picture of something I find interesting each day when I’m doing the outdoors active thing. As we’re now in the world of social media I’m using Instagram to share the photos.

Over 50 days have passed since the start of 2017 and I’m pleased to say that, not only have I stuck with it, but I’m enjoying it! Some days are harder work than others. A busy day at the “office” and bad weather are not excuses for not going out! And, although it’s my resolution, Greg has gamely joined in accompanying me and even going out on his own when it’s not possible to go out together.

Spending time in the fresh air has been great for blowing off the cobwebs and looking for the photo of the day means I’m paying much more attention to what I’m seeing and hearing around me. It’s amazing what catches your eye!  I know there are more than 300 days to go to the end of the year but I intend to continue with my New Year’s resolution.
