COVID-19 Information

Welcome to Saddle Mountain Hostel

The safety and wellbeing of our guests, ourselves and our local community remain our priority. We are following the latest Scottish Government and tourism sector guidance to ensure we have the right processes in place to do this and we have achieved the VisitScotland “We’re good to go” accreditation.

You can help us too. Please protect yourself and protect others by following the latest Scottish Government requirements on travel restrictions and not travelling if you feel unwell, Test and Protect, hand hygiene, physical distancing, wearing face coverings and limits on the number of households and people who can meet indoors.

Whilst we know things will be different, we will do everything we can to make sure you enjoy your stay with us. We want to say thanks for your understanding and support at this time, we really do appreciate it. We hope to see you soon.

Saddle Mountain Hostel will be open from the start of April 2021, subject to COVID-19 restrictions. We will post any changes to this date on our Facebook page.

General information

We are offering 5 private bedrooms on a room-only basis available for between 1 and 5 people. Each room is for one household only. Our shared dormitory rooms are not available but we do have a rate for single occupancy of two of our private rooms if you are travelling on your own.
Yes. If the room you have booked does not have en-suite facilities you and your household will be allocated exclusive use of a toilet and shower.
Unfortunately we have taken the tough decision to close our self-catering kitchen, dining room, lounge and drying room/guest laundry. The physical distancing requirements and additional cleaning and disinfection that would be required after each use means it is difficult for us to open and maintain these facilities safely. We will continuously review this and open our communal facilities as soon as it is permitted and we are satisfied that we can do so safely.
Each room has a kettle, mugs, tea and coffee so that you can make your own drinks. There is also a small fridge in each room. You can use our microwave to heat up food (by booking a timed slot) and you can also cook outside if you have a camping stove. You cannot use your camping stove in your bedroom as this is against fire regulations. We can provide crockery and cutlery. There are hotels in Invergarry providing meals and takeaways. We will provide you with up-to-date information before you are due to stay with us.
We have removed any unnecessary or difficult to clean items from our bedrooms and communal areas to ensure they can be cleaned effectively. We are sorry, but this means that our bustling reception area looks quite sparse with no bookcase full of walking guides, maps and guidebooks, sofa or coffee table. We will still be available (physically distanced of course) to help guests plan their trips. And we’ll send you links to great things to do locally before you arrive.
At the time of booking we require a valid debit or credit card to confirm your reservation. We will not take a deposit payment. We will take full payment on arrival, using the card details you supplied to confirm the booking. You may cancel your booking without charge any time up to three days before the start of check-in on your arrival date (check-in starts at 4.30pm each day). After that time, you can cancel or rearrange (subject to availability) your booking without any charge if you are unable to travel to the hostel due to COVID-19 travel restrictions in your area or here in Invergarry. If you decide not to stay for any other reason your booking will be subject to our normal cancellation charges: Between 3 days and 1 day before the start of check-in on your arrival date - the cost of your first night’s stay will be charged to your card. Less than 1 day before the start of check-in on your arrival date or you don’t show up - the cost of your first two night’s stay will be charged to your card (if your stay was for more than one night). Amendments to bookings are subject to the same cancellation policy. If we are unable to provide you with the accommodation you have booked or a suitable alternative in the hostel we will refund any money you have paid us.
We ask all guests to book at least 24 hours in advance. You can call us on the day to see if we have any availability.
These remain the same. You can check in between 4.30pm and 10pm and the latest check out time from the hostel (not just your bedroom) is 10am.
Yes, the hostel is closed to all guests during the day. If you are staying with us for more than one night the hostel is closed between 10am and 4pm.
Check ins are contactless. Many of the things that we normally do at check in will be done in advance – payment, guest registration details (including NHS Scotland Test and Protect information), key codes for bedroom and front door. We reserve the right to ask for ID. We have installed a clear screen at our reception desk to protect you and us.
We pride ourselves on the cleanliness of our hostel. We have enhanced our processes in line with official public health guidance and are committed to providing and maintaining a safe environment for our guests.
  • We have undertaken appropriate training.
  • We use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment for cleaning.
  • Your room will be fully cleaned and disinfected in line with tourism sector guidelines prior to your arrival.
  • We use disinfecting products certified to EN 14476 (based on tourism sector guidelines).
  • We are disinfecting high-frequency touch points in public areas regularly. This includes door handles, doorbells, light switches, keypads and payment terminal.
  • Your room is exclusively yours during your stay. For your safety we will not enter your bedroom during your stay, except with your agreement.
  • Cleaning and disinfecting products are available for guests to use, if requested. Do not use products that we have not supplied.
Hand soap is provided for guest use in each bathroom and bedroom. Hand towels are available in each bedroom and toilet. There is hand sanitiser outside the front door of the hostel. We kindly ask all guests to use it every time they enter the building. There is also hand sanitiser available inside the hostel public areas.
We are following Scottish Government guidance on this and ask you to wear face coverings when you are in the public areas of the hostel, unless you are exempt. We will wear a face covering and any other appropriate Personal Protective Equipment required.
Signage is in place to remind guests to observe the Scottish Government’s physical distancing requirements, particularly in our reception area. There are also be signs throughout the hostel with other safety advice including good hand hygiene, COVID-19 symptoms and what to do if you become unwell.
If you feel unwell before you travel, or are self-isolating, please do not travel to Saddle Mountain Hostel. If you begin to feel unwell after you arrive, please let us know as soon as possible. We are following NHS Scotland Test and Protect guidelines. You will be liable for additional costs if you have to self-isolate beyond your planned stay in the hostel.
We are supporting NHS Scotland Test and Protect to look after our guests, our community and ourselves. As part of our standard guest registration process we require the names and contact details of everyone staying with us. This will be done in advance of your stay. We will share your details as required by the NHS Scotland Test and Protect service to allow contract tracing. We will not make any direct contact with guests in the event of a known outbreak at the hostel. We reserve the right not to accept a booking from anyone who is not prepared to provide their information for this purpose. We have amended our privacy policy to show this additional use of your details.
If you’ve stayed with us before you’ll know how much we enjoy meeting our guests and swapping stories with them whilst at the same time making sure the hostel is running smoothly. At the moment this is more difficult for us to do but we are still available. Please just ring on the bell and we’ll be there to help you. And ,of course, you’ll see us as we make sure that all our high-frequency touch points are regularly cleaned and disinfected.
