Welcome to Saddle Mountain Hostel

The safety and wellbeing of our guests, ourselves and our local community remain our priority. We are following the latest Scottish Government and tourism sector guidance to ensure we have the right processes in place to do this and we have achieved the VisitScotland “We’re good to go” accreditation.

You can help us too. Please protect yourself and protect others by following the latest Scottish Government requirements on travel restrictions and not travelling if you feel unwell, Test and Protect, hand hygiene, physical distancing, wearing face coverings and limits on the number of households and people who can meet indoors.

Whilst we know things will be different, we will do everything we can to make sure you enjoy your stay with us. We want to say thanks for your understanding and support at this time, we really do appreciate it. We hope to see you soon.

Until the end of February 2021 we are open for exclusive use bookings only. From March 2021 we intend to open the hostel for individual bookings. Please read on to find out more about what to expect on your next visit. Please note that this information supersedes some of our FAQs.

Exclusive use bookings

Yes, you can book Saddle Mountain Hostel for your exclusive use. Your use of the hostel will be subject to the latest Scottish Government requirements, particularly on travel restrictions and limits on the number of households and people who can meet indoors.
There is a minimum stay of 2 nights.
This will depend upon the number of people in your group. There is a minimum price of £150 per night based on 6 people or fewer.

No, the hostel is exclusively yours during your stay.
Subject to the group size and number of households, a maximum of 4 bedrooms will be available for your use to ensure there is one toilet and shower available for each. You will be expected to allocate bedrooms responsibly in line with the latest Scottish Government requirements on physical distancing and limits on the number of households and people who can meet indoors.
Yes, you will have access to our self-catering kitchen, dining room and a lounge area during your stay. We will provide a space for drying wet outdoor gear. The use of these facilities will be subject to the latest Scottish Government guidelines on physical distancing and limits on the number of households and people who can meet indoors.
We have removed any unnecessary or difficult to clean items throughout the hostel so it can be cleaned effectively. We are sorry but this means that, as well as fewer soft furnishings, we’ve taken away our walking guides, maps, guidebooks and toys. We will still be available (physically distanced of course) to help guests plan their trips and we’ll send you links to great things to do locally before you arrive. You’re welcome to bring your own items, though.
At the time of booking we require a valid debit or credit card to confirm your reservation. We will take full payment on arrival, using the card details you supplied to confirm the booking. Until the end of February 2021, you may cancel your booking without charge any time up to three days before the start of check in on your arrival date (check in starts at 4.30pm each day). After this time there will be no charge if you are unable to travel due to either COVID-19 travel restrictions or a change to the numbers of households/people allowed to gather indoors where you live. Cancellations for any other reason will be subject to a cancellation fee equal to the first two nights of your stay. If we are unable to provide you with the accommodation you have booked or a suitable alternative in the hostel we will refund any money you have paid us.
No, we ask all guests to book at least 24 hours in advance.
You can check in from 4.30pm and the latest check out time from the hostel is 9am. We are sorry that this is different from our normal check out time. We need to make sure there is enough time to carry out the additional cleaning required after an exclusive use booking before our next guests arrive.
No, with an exclusive use booking the hostel is available for your use at any time during your stay.
Check ins will be contactless. Many of the things that we normally do at check in will be done in advance – payment, guest registration details (including NHS Scotland Test and Protect information), key codes for bedrooms and front door.
We pride ourselves on the cleanliness of our hostel. We have enhanced our processes in line with official public health guidance and are committed to providing and maintaining a safe environment for our guests.
  • We have undertaken appropriate training.
  • We will use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment for cleaning.
  • The hostel will be fully cleaned and disinfected in line with tourism sector guidelines prior to your arrival.
  • We will be using disinfecting products certified to EN 14476 (based on tourism sector guidelines).
  • Cleaning will not be done during your stay.
  • We will not be disinfecting high-frequency touch points in the hostel during your stay but cleaning and disinfecting products will be available in the hostel for guests to use. Do not use any products that we have not supplied.
Bed linen is provided and beds will be made up prior to your check in. Hand towels will be available in each bedroom and bathroom. Bath towels are not included in the price. You can hire them from us (£2 per towel) or bring your own.
Hand soap is provided for guest use in each bathroom and bedroom.
Signage will be in place to remind guests to observe the Scottish Government’s physical distancing requirements, particularly in our reception area. There will also be signs throughout the hostel with other safety advice including good hand hygiene, COVID-19 symptoms and what to do if you become unwell.
If you feel unwell before you travel, or are self-isolating, please do not travel to Saddle Mountain Hostel. If you begin to feel unwell after you arrive, please inform a member of staff as soon as possible. We will follow NHS Scotland Test and Protect guidelines. You will be liable for additional costs if you have to self-isolate beyond your planned stay in the hostel.
We are supporting NHS Scotland Test and Protect to look after our guests, our community and ourselves. As part of our standard guest registration process we require the names and contact details of everyone staying with us. This will be done in advance of your stay. We will share your details as required by the NHS Scotland Test and Protect service to allow contact tracing. We will not make any direct contact with guests in the event of a known outbreak at the hostel. We reserve the right not to accept a booking from anyone who is not prepared to provide their information for this purpose. We have amended our privacy policy to show this additional use of your details.
We enjoy meeting our groups during their stay and making sure they have everything they need. At the moment this is more difficult for us to do but we are still available. We will be there to welcome you and at any other time please just ring on the bell and we’ll be there to help you. We ask you to wear face coverings, unless you are exempt, if you need to have contact with us. We will wear a face covering too and we have installed a clear screen at our reception desk to protect you and us.

Individual bookings

We are not taking individual bed/room bookings for the period up until the end of February 2021. We intend to open the hostel for individual bookings from March 2021 onwards. What we are able to offer in terms of beds/rooms and access to communal facilities will be subject to the latest Scottish Government requirements on the limits on the number of households and people who can meet indoors and any travel restrictions as well as tourism sector guidance. We will begin taking individual bookings for this period from the middle of January 2021.
