COVID-19 Information

Welcome back to Saddle Mountain Hostel

We’ve missed you. It’s been a while since guests have been able to stay with us but we’re ready to welcome you back.

The safety and wellbeing of our guests, ourselves and our local community remain our priority. We are following the latest Scottish Government and tourism sector guidance to ensure we have the right processes in place to do this and we have achieved the VisitScotland “We’re good to go” accreditation.

You can help us too. Please protect yourself and protect others by following the latest Scottish Government requirements on not travelling if you feel unwell, Test and Protect, hand hygiene, physical distancing, wearing face coverings and limits on the number of households and people who can meet indoors.

Whilst we know things will be different when we reopen, we will do everything we can to make sure you enjoy your stay with us. We want to say thanks for your understanding and support at this time, we really do appreciate it. We hope to see you soon.

Please read on to find out more about what to expect on your next visit. Please note that this information supersedes some of our FAQs.

General information

We are offering 4 private bedrooms on a room-only basis at the moment (2 rooms for up to 4 people and 2 for up to 2 people). To ensure safe physical distancing we have reduced our maximum capacity from 22 to 12 people and each room will be for one household (living at the same address or Scottish Government defined extended household) only. Our shared dormitory rooms are not available but we do have a rate for single occupancy of two of our private rooms if you are travelling on your own.
Yes. If the room you have booked does not have en-suite facilities you and your household will be allocated exclusive use of a toilet and shower.
Unfortunately we have taken the tough decision to close our self-catering kitchen, dining room, lounge and drying room/guest laundry. The physical distancing requirements and additional cleaning and disinfection that would be required after each use means it is difficult for us to open and maintain these facilities safely. We are sorry but you will not be allowed to store any food items in the kitchen. We will continuously review this and open our communal facilities as soon as it is permitted and we are satisfied that we can do so safely.
We will be offering you complementary tea and coffee during your stay and in the morning a flapjack bar and a freshly made coffee from our Espresso Hub. Cooking is not allowed in the bedrooms. Places to eat in Invergarry and Fort Augustus are reopening. Reservations are likely to be essential for pubs and restaurants. We will provide you with up-to-date information before you are due to stay with us.
We have removed any unnecessary or difficult to clean items from our bedrooms and communal areas to ensure they can be cleaned effectively. We are sorry, but this means that our bustling reception area looks quite sparse with no bookcase full of walking guides, maps and guidebooks, sofa or coffee table. We will still be available (physically distanced of course) to help guests plan their trips. And, we’ll send you links to great things to do locally before you arrive.
At the time of booking we require a valid debit or credit card to confirm your reservation. We will not take a deposit payment. We will take full payment on arrival, using the card details you supplied to confirm the booking. Until the end of March 2021 you may cancel your booking without charge any time up to three days before the start of check-in on your arrival date (check-in starts at 4.30pm each day). After that time, your booking will be subject to our normal cancellation charges: Between 3 days and 1 day before the start of check-in on your arrival date - the cost of your first night’s stay will be charged to your card. Less than 1 day before the start of check-in on your arrival date or you don’t show up - the cost of your first two night’s stay will be charged to your card (if your stay was for more than one night). Amendments to bookings are subject to the same cancellation policy. If we are unable to provide you with the accommodation you have booked or a suitable alternative in the hostel we will refund any money you have paid us.
No, we ask all guests to book at least 24 hours in advance. You will not be able to book online to stay on the same day.
These remain the same. You can check in between 4.30pm and 10pm and the latest check out time from the hostel (not just your bedroom) is 10am.
Yes, the hostel is closed to all guests during the day. If you are staying with us for more than one night you may stay in the hostel until 10.30am and return after 4pm.
Check ins will be contactless. Many of the things that we normally do at check in will be done in advance – payment, guest registration details (including NHS Scotland Test and Protect information), key codes for bedroom and front door. We reserve the right to ask for ID and proof of address. We have installed a clear screen at our reception desk to protect you and us.
We pride ourselves on the cleanliness of our hostel. We have enhanced our processes in line with official public health guidance and are committed to providing and maintaining a safe environment for our guests.
  • We have undertaken appropriate training.
  • We will use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment for cleaning.
  • Your room will be fully cleaned and disinfected in line with tourism sector guidelines prior to your arrival.
  • We will be using disinfecting products certified to EN 14476 (based on tourism sector guidelines).
  • We will be disinfecting high-frequency touch points in public areas regularly. This will include door handles, doorbells, light switches, keypads and payment terminal.
  • Your room will be exclusively yours during your stay. For your safety we will not enter your bedroom during your stay, except with your agreement.
  • Cleaning and disinfecting products will be available in each guest room for guests to use during their stay. Do not use products that we have not supplied.
Hand soap is provided for guest use in each bathroom and bedroom. Hand towels will be available in each bedroom and private facilities. There is hand sanitiser outside the front door of the hostel. We kindly ask all guests to use it every time they enter the building. There is also hand sanitiser available inside the hostel public areas.
We will be following Scottish Government guidance on this and ask you to wear face coverings when you are in the public areas of the hostel, unless you are exempt. We will wear a face covering and/or visor and any other appropriate Personal Protective Equipment required.
Signage will be in place to remind guests to observe the Scottish Government’s physical distancing requirements, particularly in our reception area. There will also be signs throughout the hostel with other safety advice including good hand hygiene, COVID-19 symptoms and what to do if you become unwell.
If you feel unwell before you travel, or are self-isolating, please do not travel to Saddle Mountain Hostel. If you begin to feel unwell after you arrive, please inform a member of staff as soon as possible. We will follow NHS Scotland Test and Protect guidelines. You will be liable for additional costs if you have to self-isolate beyond your planned stay in the hostel.
We are supporting NHS Scotland Test and Protect to look after our guests, our community and ourselves. As part of our standard guest registration process we require the names and contact details of everyone staying with us. This will be done in advance of your stay. We will share your details as required by the NHS Scotland Test and Protect service to allow contract tracing. We will not make any direct contact with guests in the event of a known outbreak at the hostel. We reserve the right not to accept a booking from anyone who is not prepared to provide their information for this purpose. We have amended our privacy policy to show this additional use of your details.
If you’ve stayed with us before you’ll know how much we enjoy meeting our guests and swapping stories with them whilst at the same time making sure the hostel is running smoothly. At the moment this is more difficult for us to do but we are still available. Please just ring on the bell and we’ll be there to help you. And of course you’ll see us as we make sure that all our high-frequency touch points are regularly cleaned and disinfected.
